he Research Paper
Your first two essay assignments were designed to focus on specific critical thinking and writing skills. For your first assignment, you learned to use personal narratives to develop and strengthen your essays. Your second assignment allowed you to practice persuasive writing, arguing your position about a piece of art in an evaluative review.
Your third essay, an argumentative research paper, will incorporate the skills you have developed throughout this course, and will develop new skills in research. For this assignment, you will:
Generate your own topic related to your major or future career path. Make sure you pick something that is arguable and that there is a good deal of research written about.
Make an argument about your topic. This argument must be clearly stated in a working thesis statement. All body paragraphs must be focused and organized, clearly relating back to your thesis.
Research sources appropriate to your topic (peer-reviewed, academic journal articles), and effectively use those sources as evidence to support and prove your thesis.
Cite all sources using MLA Format. Your paper must include proper parenthetical citations and an annotated bibliography at the end.
Your paper should be about 5 pages, double-spaced (not including your annotated bibliography).
It should have a captivating title that makes the reader want to read on.
You should use Times New Roman font and insert page numbers.
