Career of Augustus
Tacitus gives a very short summary and assessment of the career of Augustus. We also have Augustus’ own description of his career in the res gestae. Faulkner provides you with a third point of view. Which of these sources is the most trustworthy? Why?..
sources i want to use are.
Faulkner, Rome, Empire of the Eagles pp 168-186
Tacitus, The Annals of Imperial Rome ( chapters 1-3 books 1-2.26)
https://classics.mit.edu/Augustus/deeds.html. ( this source as l written by Augstus)
i want to say that the Tacitus very short summary and assessment of the career of Augustus. is more trustworthy, then of Augustus own description of his career in the res gestae. due to the fact that people tend to exaggerate their own achievements. to make themselfs sound better. this is a opion research paper but i also want to compare both Augstus and Tacitus assessments. Want to see if there are any differences in Tacitus , and Augstus statements. but overall trusting more of Tacitus assessments of Augustus career.
i want to use mult sources from these three sources to prove that Tacitus is more trustworthy.
