Assessment task 2: Critical Evaluation of the Clinical Teaching Plan and Teaching Session
Intent: This assessment allows you to operation alise your teaching plan by presenting your teaching session to a group of people. You will have the opportunity to critically evaluate your planned session or program of clinical teaching in terms of the literature in this area. You are required to receive formal feedback about your teaching from established educators; therefore this assignment provides you with an opportunity to evaluate your development as a clinical educator.
TASK: THIS ASSESSMENT IS FOCUSSED ON YOUR ACTUAL TEACHING SESSION AND THE FEEDBACK YOU RECEIVE – IT NO LONGER
FOCUSSES ON YOUR TEACHING PLAN
For this assignment, you are required to construct and teach the session outlined in your teaching plan, receive feedback and critically evaluate the teaching plan and teaching session you developed for Assignment 1.
1. Construct the teaching session using power point slides (this is not counted in the word limit) – power point slides are to be submitted with your assessment, however they do not count towards the assessment
You are required to present your teaching session to two (2) appropriately qualified colleagues (must have experience with developing education sessions and evaluating education sessions) who are able to give you constructive feedback on your teaching activity. NOTE: This session can be given to “real” participants, however you need to nominate two (2) appropriate people to give you feedback.
2. Schedule to present your teaching session before your final teaching session evaluation is to be submitted, leaving enough time to receive feedback and complete this assessment.
3. Outline in your assessment what you did (how you constructed your slides) and how you approached your teaching session.
4. You will need to incorporate the feedback from your colleagues into the final document.
In your evaluation, you will address the following (ensure you have seen the marking criteria):
The theoretical principles (on teaching) on which your clinical teaching session was based
The factors which could either enhance or impede teaching and learning in your teaching session
The criteria against which you will evaluate your clinical teaching session
This assessment is about your teaching; therefore your evaluation must be grounded in the literature on teaching and learning. You must provide a comprehensive reference list of the resources used in this evaluation.
