Idea Generation / Evaluation and Selection

Paper details:
Research on methods for idea generation, idea evaluation and selection. Produce four (4) method cards.
What to research. Two of the methods should be for the idea generation phase (generating ideas, stimulating
creativity, improving ideas, etc.). The other two methods are for the idea evaluation and selection phase (methods
for comparing, evaluating, ranking or selecting ideas). Coordinate the method topics among the group members
to avoid duplication and ensure that a wide range of methods are studied within each group.
Where to research. There are a number of text books and websites that outline methods for innovation processes
(these methods may be referred to under a number of names such as ?tools?, ?techniques?, or others). Check the
library and online under topics such as creativity, idea generation, product development, decision making, concept
evaluation.
How much to research. Do not rely on a single source of information. You should consult a minimum of three
different sources for each method and synthesise your understanding from these sources.
How much to write and Method Card format: Summarise each method separately on a ?Method Card? following the
required format. Print each method card on a single A4 sheet of paper so that folded in half it becomes a twosided
method card. One side of the card has the name of the method, purpose of the method, a picture and a
short description. The other side of the card explains the use of the method and provides two or three references.
