Topic: Juvenile Justice
THE ASSIGNMENT: Early juvenile justice has impacted where we are today. Students will answer the below questions regarding the early development of juvenile justice in the United States. In your response paper, you should reproduce the question and then your response. Each response must be written in complete sentences with correct grammar and punctuation. Each response must be at least one complete paragraph and well thought out.
The different institutional responses to delinquent youths often resulted in the inhumane treatment of children. What was it about these institutions that often produced harmful responses?
What role did the family play in the socialization and control of children before the 1800’s?
What is “placing out” and what shortcomings resulted from this practice?
What were the basic features of the reform, industrial, and training schools that were developed during the last half of the 1800’s?
What were the distinguishing characteristics of the specialized female training schools?
